Miners weaken markedly industrials, oils firm
Leading mining shares were markedly weaker in late trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Oils were very firm and industrials were mixed. The uraniums lost most heavily.
; Heavy-weights were lower, . with Metals Ex 20c down at 550 c. C.R.A. at 1100 c, and . W.M.C. at 480 c were both 10c lower. Great Boulder shed 5c to 275 c, as did M.I.M. at 360 c However, Peko was very strong and rose 30c to 1060 c. The speculative market levelled off a little after the midday slide. Meekathrra was a bright spot and closed 18c. higher at 168 c. Among the oils, Magellan rose 10c to 110 c, and Ampol Ex was 5c up to 115 c. Against the strong trend, Timor fell 8c to 49c, and Woodside eased. Leading industrials finned B.H.P. closed steady at 1405 c Thiess was 5c higher at 345 c, and Hooker continued to advance with a 2c gain to 110 c. T.N.T. was 2c up at 145 c, and E.Z. put on 4c at 304 c. However, Comalco lost 5c to 425 c. SYDNEY
