‘Swimmer of the Year’
M. Treff.rz, »h« 17.y««r-sld Southland longdistance swimmar who won a bronze medal in the IMO metres freestyle at the Edinburgh Commonwealth Gbmes last year, was named New Zealand's "Swimmer of the Year" at the New Zealand championships at Palmerston North on Saturday.
The award la made on service, ability, performance, character, and likelihood of continued service to the sport. With It goes the Bexter O'Neill Trophy.
Treffers has the highest world-ranking among New Zealand swimmers, and is the only person In the country to have broken 17mln for the ISM metres.
The Harold Pottit Trophy awarded to the swimmer golnIng most Individual points at the championships was won by the brilliant Otago swimmer. J. McConnochie, who totalled 11 points.
