Horse events attraction at Kaikoura show

Horse events were the, major attraction at the fifty - ninth Kaikoura Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show at the South Bay Domain, Kaikoura, on Sat-

urday. But for those not inter- ( ested in horses there was , plenty to attract and the weather, overcast but mild, did not hinder the running of the show. Gate takings were $296, down on last year’s good figure of $325. Horse entries totalled 514. The next-biggest stock section was sheep, at 128 entries. Cattle, dogs, and poultry made up the rest of the livestock. Three police dogs and their handlers from the Christchurch police dog section entertained the crowd for half-an-hour with an impressive demonstration of how the dogs deal with their quarry. At the end of the performance, a spectator was invited to don the protective armguards and attempt to ward off an attacking dog the dog had no trouble dealing with him.
