WOOL VALUES EASE
The wool market deteriorated in the course of yesterday’s Christchurch sale. Early in the day the market for Corriedale and halfbred wools was quoted as being very firm and inclined in sellers* favour compared with the last fine-wool sale at Timaru. Later the stronger, halfbreds were estimated to have declined by a good 2} per cent in the course of the sale with fine and medium categories being about steady. Some wools were down by even more than 2J per cent at the end. Passings increased as the sale progressed. The Wool Commission had a busy day. It was reported to have been supplementing fine-wool sales extensively and it also had a sprinkling of fine wool passed to its bid. The average price for the sale could be down by 1c
to Ijc per lb on last month’s sale, itself not very impressive. Crossbred wools, however, Improved slightly on the Auckland sale earlier in the week, fine and medium sorts and skirtings being fully 2| per cent dearer, with coarse to extra strong wools being in sellers’ favour.
