House on fire
Fire damaged three rooms of a house at 28 Disraeli Street, Addington, yesterday morning. The occupier, Mrs E. Metcalf, called the fire brigade when she saw flames in a comer of the washhouse at the rear of her single-storey weatherboard house. By the time two engines from the Christchurch Central and Sydenham stations arrived, the fire had spread to a lavatory and porch, but, using one jet of water, firemenprevented its spreading. ROOM DAMAGED Fire slightly damaged a room of a house at 19 Esk Place, Bexley, soon after 4 p.m. The fire started in some curtains, but had little chance to spread once engines from the New Brighton and Woolston fire stations arrived.
