ONE TON CUP

First race today

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND.

i The complex weather patitem surrounding New Zealand promises little respite from the predicted 20-knot nor’-easerly winds forecast for today's first race in the One Ton Cup series. The weather office is not hopeful of any dramatic improvement in conditions before the week-end.

Heavy weather in the race should suit the yachts with the greatest length—WaiAniwa (New Zealand), Optimist B (Germany and Kerkyra IV (Italy). Optimist B and Kerkyra IV are short of sailing practice and could be hard pushed by 'Young Nick and Escapade )(New Zealand) and Stormy .Petrel (Australia). Wai-Aniwa failed on the short courses in the trials, but after the form shown in last week’s Balokovic Cup race, sailed with an abundance of wind, she should be the boat to beat today.
