CALCUTTA TENNIS
N.Z. may gain players (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. If the rumours that the [Asian open tennis tournament at Calcutta will not be held because of lack of support from sponsors and lack of top-line players are true, there is a possibility that the [Benson and Hedges open tournament at Auckland next week will gain several more leading players. ! The tournament, which will 'start on Monday, may have the services of T. Okker (Netherlands), R. G. Taylor (Britain), and J. Alexander (Australia).
“However, this is by no means definite.” said the chairman of the promotions committee (Mr B. W. Ryder) last night. “I rang Mr J. McDonald, a director of World Championship Tennis (the body which manages many of the top professional players) and he said he would let me know in several days whether these three would be available for our tournament or not,” said IMr Ryder
