Floating oil from ships
Sir,—ln a recent letter to , “The Press,” I expressed my , belief that this trouble was . due to lack of oil filters on ships. I have since learned . that in these days all ships carrying or using oil have oil i filters. The source of the . trouble appears to be the lack of any international agreement in dealing with the problems of this waste oil. As this trouble is world wide, I feel that the New Zealand Government might well institute an inquiry by a committee well versed in all aspects of the matter; their findings should be put forward as a resolution at a meeting of United Nations. It is a shock- ‘ ing thing that even in midAtlantic .there are now accu- 1 mutations of this wasted oil. • I am grateful to the master of a ship who telephoned me 1 with far more accurate Infor-! mation than I Had even i gathered elsewhere.—Yours, 1 February 2, 1971. ARTHUR LUSH.
