Holy Hal under treatment
Holy Hal, one of the early favourites for the Inter-Dominion Championship Grand Final, is under veterinary treatment for a leg injury—but it is responding well, and is not thought likely to cause him any concern in Saturday’s big race.
There was swelling in his near hind fetlock joint after he finished fourth in his race on Saturday night. This is thought to have been caused by the horse kicking in his stall. Holy Hal’s trainer, D. Todd, said yesterday that “it was nothing to worry about.”
Most of the visiting horses at Addington Raceway were let off with easy work yesterday morning.
Last Flood vary fit Last Flood worked two miles the reverse way on his own, at a steady pace. At no stage was he asked to stretch out. He looks to have done better than any of the visiting horses, and looks very fit for his big test. Welcome Advice was jogged quietly on the outside of the course. He, too, looks to have done well lately. He received a poor run in his final heat, and was not disgraced when he finished eighth. Mount Eden was trotted for several laps, and then was given a few short, sharp sprints, pacing free-legged. Given fine weather, he is expected to break Cardigan Bay's New Zealand record for one mile of linln 56 l-ssec on Saturday. The club will pay him $2500 if
he creates a new record, an additional $5OO having been offered by Messrs N. Simpson and K. H. Hutchins, of Sydney, who have also offered another 5500 if Mount Eden breaks Bret Hanover’s world record of imin 53 3-ssec.
Sponsorship of $4lOO Sponsorship of $4lOO has now been offered if Mount Eden breaks the world record. The Green Valley Stud, Adelaide, will pay $250, the Allenby Lodge Stud, Adelaide, $lOO, the Tennant’a Creek Trotting Club, $250, and the atandardbred division of NMA and Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd, $250, in addition to the offers made on Monday evening. Barrhill missed a few days of work because of glandular trouble, and had to be scratched from his heat last Saturday. All going well he will race on the final day of the meeting. Royal Deeslde was one of few horses to work at speed yesterday. Assisted by a galloping £ acemaker, be took 2 min 41 Ssec for 10 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 1 3-ssec, and the final quarter in 30 l-saec. He will meet particularly strong opposition in the Three-year-old Championship on Saturday, but should show to advantage.
