ONE TON CUP

Crews get briefing

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND.

The 1971 One Ton Cup contest skippers and navigators were briefed in the Westhaven clubrooms of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron last evening. The occasion was in no way brightened by high winds, heavy rain and huge seas.

In all, it had been a miserable day for crews concentrating on last minute preparations for one of the world’s great yachting events. The meteorologist, Mr L. Larsen, said easterlies could still be expected on Thursday and Friday. Mr B. M. Marler, chairman of the yacht squadron O.T.C. committee, said after the meeting that the races were sailed under the R. 0.R.C. rules, and that this called for no cancellation because of weather. Mr Marler added that consideration to a postponement would only be given if racing conditions were dangerous.
