KAIAPOI SCHOOL
First board
appointed
An interim Board of Governors has been appointed for the new Kaiapoi High School. It will be meeting for about two years and will be disbanded when the school is able to set up its own board.
The Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council accepted a request from the Mayor of Kaiapoi (Mr H. O. Hills) last evening that the board should consist of the council, himself, and Cr R. L. Wylie. The acting chairman (Mr W. J. Cartwright) said that the board’s responsibilities I for the first year would be to watch construction at the school and to consider the appointment of the principal and teachers.
The Council secretary (Mr P. P. J. Halligan) said that the council was legally obliged to offer its services as an interim board when schools were not established. HAS WORKED WELL
“This is a procedure we have followed with our higb schools in Christchurch and it has worked particularly well,” said Mr Cartwright. “In this case it is simply to assist the people of Kaiapoi to get the school under way. Then the whole administration will be handed over to the new board.”
The Kaiapoi High School will open at the beginning of next year. It will have a third-form intake of about 165 pupils.
