NO DECISION ON SEWER
Happy Home Road The Christchurch Drainage Board -last evening deferred a decision on providing sewer connections for the existing 29 houses in Happy Home Road, Halswell. The works committee recommended that these houses only be connected at a total estimated cost of $37,000, the work to be spread over two financial years.
The committee further recommended that it be made clear that other connections for sewers would be granted only when new or relief works altered the situation, possibly in about 10 years. Mr G. Ogilvie, moving that the recommendation be not accepted, said that it meant that “these people who choose to build in the country and then want urban facilities are asking the board’s ratepayers to contribute $1276 for each house to be connected to the sewer.”
After discussion Mr Ogilvie withdrew his motion, and it was resolved, without dissent, that the question be referred back to the committee.
