Dahlias dominate Workshop show

Dahlias dominated the twenty-seventh summer flower and vegetable show held by the Addington Workshops’ Horticultural Society at the Railways’ social hall on Saturday.

Although there were nearly 800 entries, most of them were multiple entries from a small number of entrants who had spent a great amount of time in preparation for the show. One of the most outstanding entries was a vase of three decorattive Vergo rose blooms entered by Mr R. A. Bullivant, the winner of the Summer Rose Challenge Cup. The judge, Mr J. Hutchinson, said the Vergo blooms were the best he had ever seen in a summer show. An award of merit was given to Mrs E. Taylor for an artistic display of gladioli, which was exhibited in the centre of the hall.
