Miss C. Whiting breaks own record at Greymouth

Miss C. Whiting (Canterbury) broke her own New Zealand short course 100 yards butterfly record by seven tenths of a second in the Greymouth War Memorial Pool on Saturday.

The record stood at 61.4 sec, and Miss Whiting’s new time was 60.7 sec. This time, however, has to be ratified by the New, Zealand Swimming Association.

Miss Whiting made her attempt on the record in ideal conditions. She came to Greymouth with a party of swimmers from her own Jellie Park club to compete in a carnival against Hokitika . and Greymouth swimmers.

About 100 young swimmers took part in events, held over 50 and 100 yards in all strokes, and many swimmers bettered their previous best times.

Yesterday morning, all swimmers took part in an impromptu carnival at Hokitika and later lunched together. Results at Greymouth were (abbreviations, Jellie Park (J), Greymouth (G), Hokitika (H): —
