QUAX 3rd IN MILE

U.S. debut indoors (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK. R. Quax, of New Zealand, finished third in the mile event at the Knights of Columbus Games in New York. Quax was timed at 4min 7.8 sec. The race was won by L. Buono of Italy in 4min 4.6 sec. C. Mason, of England, was second in 4min 6.4 sec, R. Hill, an Australian student at the University of Texas, El Paso, led for the first four laps of the 11-lap race, running the first quarter in 61.5 sec.

Starting the gun lap, the Italian held a four-yard margin over Mason, and gradually widened it over the Englishman to the tape. Mason beat the tiring Quax by about eight yards.
