(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON. An unbeaten last-wicket stand of 21 runs by J. D. Smith and G. Roberts saved Waikato from outright defeat by Nelson in a twonlay cricket match at Trafalgar Park at the week-end. But Nelson took most of the honours in this warm-up game for its Hawke Cup challenge next week-end. The home side scored 128 runs for the loss of one wicket in 91 minutes in its second innings, leaving Waikato 148 minutes in which to make 224 for victory. Nelson’s pace and swing attack captured nine Waikato wickets for 145, but Roberts and Smith held out for the last 15 minutes. Nelson. —290/7 decl. (L. B. Reade 91, B. L. Hampton 90, D. N.
