AIRCRAFT HIT

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Feb. 7. A light aircraft returned to Hamilton airport 10 minutes after take-off yesterday with an extra passenger—a dead duck. Flying in convoy with two others, the duck hit the Cessna aircraft about 6.30 pun., shattering the plane’s windscreen, passing the people on board, and ending up in the luggage locker at the rear. The plane was on a dual.

cross-country instruction flight under Mr P. Connor, Taupo. A student pilot at the controls had his face slightly cut and bruised. “We saw three ducks away and above us," Mr Connor said. “As we got close two peeled off, but one did « sort of dive-bomb turn to the left and came straight in through the prop and windscreen.” The Cessna was left at Hamilton for repairs, and the journey to Taupo continued—by car.
