Russian trawler reported
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 7. A large Russian fishing trawler has been reported working off the North Taranaki coast.
The vessel was seen by a New Plymouth fisherman. Mr A. E. Rutherford, on Thursday night about 23 or 24 miles off the coast from Tirua Point. Mr Rutherford said he was fishing in about 50 fathoms of water and the Russian vessel was about three miles away. Mr Rutherford said he watched the vessel through binoculars and although he could see the Russian markings, could not identify the name.
