Commonwealth Games pool

Sir, —So the Paparua County Council refuses to give the City Council a cent towards the cost of building the pool. Seems to me I’ve heard this story somewhere before. I well remember when Mona Vale was under offer to the City Council some of the satellite areas surrounding Christchurch also being cast as heavies. Will Mr Guthrey now give an assurance that the Games pool will now not be built at Ilam? I am very much in favour of Christchurch holding the Commonwealth Games, and I am not opposing the siting of the pool at flam for party political reasons. I am just sick and tired of watching the city ratepayer being used as a milk cow by the more affluent residents of this metropolitan area.—Yours, GORDON THOMAS. February 3, 1971.
