Dangerous parking
Sir,—Why is it that the C.C.D., a responsible Christchurch firm, has the downright foolishness to park two of its rather large delivery trucks on a busy city intersection? Every night for two months; when I have made a left hand turn on to Antigua Street off Tuam Street, my vision of oncoming traffic is blocked and I find it necessary to cross “blindly” into an opposing traffic lane to pass these two vehicles. This to my mind shows a total disregard for the road code, which states: “You may not stop or park a vehicle, without due care and reasonable consideration for others using the road. . . . near any corner, bend, rise, safety zone or intersection where your vehicle might obstruct other traffic or another driver’s view of the road.” Surely the C.C.D. can find another place to park its vehicles.—Yours, LIKE A CLEAR VIEW. January 14, 1971. [This letter was referred to the general manager of the C.C.D. for comment, but no reply has been received. Ed, "The Press.”]
