Gynaecologist blames films

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, February 2. The gynaecologist mother of the Australian actress, Diane Cilento, blames love scenes in films for the high illegitimacy rate in Brisbane. Lady Phyllis Cilento, lecturer in obstetrical physiotherapy at the University of Queensland, said today that modem film directors never suggest that their love-mak-ing heroines were taking the pill. “Nobody ever infers before a romantic scene that the characters are using contraceptives either,” she said. “In some film situations the girl couldn’t possibly be on the pill. You would be surprised at the impact these scenes have on some girls.” Lady Cilento, an opponent of contraception, was commenting on an announcement that illegitimate births in Queensland had risen to 11.4 per cent.
