Fisherman drowned

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Feb. 1. A man was drowned on ' Saturday night while neti fishing at the mouth of the IWaiapu River about 100 I miles from Gisborne. He was Tuakana Te Ngarano Green, aged 43, of Tikitiki, married with nine children. Mr Green stepped into a deep hole in the river and disappeared beneath the water. His brother, who was also on the fishing trip, tried to reach him but himself got into difficulties. A search party was mounted and about 8 p.m., just before the search was to be abandoned for the night, Mr Green’s body was found floating on the river about 100 yards from where he disappeared.
