Arapaho has deserved win in Cross Stakes
Arapaho foUowed up platings in his three races at the Auckland Cup meeting with a deserved win in the Cross Stakes. He broke hopelessly when a false start was declared after the 12-yard barrier had failed to release, but got away better the next time even though he tangled for a few strides. Arapaho, raced by Mr L. Forde, of Dunsandel, for whom he is trained by J. W. Smolenski, unwound a brilliant run over the final furlong to gather in Dreamy Mom close to the finish and; win going away by five lengths. He is a gelding by Bache-I

i convincingly by a length and a quarter from Logan Park, which did well to finish so close after breaking early. [ Western Valley, close up all the way, held on for third, half i a length in front of the fastfinishing Marius. Black Frost finished well along the inner for a close fifth, ahead of Bambi, ’with a length to Great Applause and a long break ij the others. General Demand followed some sound racing in the last two months with a determined finishing run to win the Mobile Stakes. K. Williams had him well placed one off the fence and he finished too well for the pacemaker, Young Robin, winning by half a neck. | Seafield Queen, checked when Master Regan broke after two ; furlongs, did well for third, a neck back and half a length in front of Stratton. Fortunate was a fair fifth just ahead of Master I Regan. Steve’s Choice, a member of [J. G. Hampton’s team proved too good for the favourite, Milford . Sister, in the Progressive Han- ; dicap. The pacemaker. Lucky [Kirstin, held on for third, ahead iof Land Point, with Harem Queen and Scottish Wine following in gaps.
