TROTTING Sassenach in runaway win at Addington

Sassenach made amends for a dismal showing in the Ashburton Cup when he finished boldly from fifth at the straight entrance to gain a runaway win in the President’s Handicap at Addington last evening.

Smokey, Ex- ( press was prominent to the straight, but could not , quicken, finishing ninth. Boy Friend began brilliantly and rushed to the ' front after two furlongs. He set a solid pace, being tracked by Smokey Express and Bra- ' vine, with Inky Boy and Bra-; , I Stylos, Sassenach, Irish Whispers, Jacquinot Bay and '; Waitaki Elect following. . I Sassenach was showing up!

wide just behind Boy Friend, Bravine, Smokey Express and Irish Whispers racing to the straight and he took control just inside the furlong. From then on he had his rivals well covered and he won easily by almost four lengths from Boy Friend, with a short length to the fast-finishing Waitaki Elect. Bravine was a close fourth, shading Alandria. Van Rover, Waratah and Inky Boy. Sam Again and False Square lost ground in the first furlong.
