Peking - Moscow clash
(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, Jan. 1. The Soviet Union and China lashed each other in strong attacks today; the Russians accusing Peking of siding with the West over the Polish troubles, and the Chinese declaring that Moscow’s “colonial” rule in Eastern Europe was in a deep crisis.
The Soviet Union Communist Party newspaper,
"Pravda,” accused China of outright lying and of using the events in Poland to undermine Moscow’s ties with its Communist allies. “Pravda” declared that Peking had taken up many times in recent years a joint stand with “the forces of imperialism and anti-commun-ism.” “The attitude of the Peking leaders to the recent events in Poland has shown again with whom they side at moments when the class struggle intensifies on the world arena,” it said. “The provocateurs in Peking are
trying to split the Socialist community and undermine its political and economic ties.” ' Radio Peking, quoting from a New Year editorial in three leading Peking journals, said that the Soviet Union, like the United States, faced a rising tide of opposition from other .countries. The editorial accused America and “social-imper-ialism”—China’s term for Russia—of aggression and oppression against various countries, provoking hundreds of millions of people to rise in revolutionary struggle. “Social-imperialism’s colonial rule in Eastern Europe is in a deep crisis,” it added.
