LIFE LINE BUSY
50 calls in six days About 50 calls have been received by Life Line in Christchurch in the last six days and the trouble team has been called out to deal with serious situations two or three times each day. The associate minister of the Christchurch Methodist Central Mission (the Rev. B. Mackie) said yesterday that although this number was slightly below the average weekly number, it was high for a holiday period. The number of times the trouble team had been called out was, however, higher than the average. Normally the team was called about 20 times a month. Mr Mackie said that the number of serious calls had increased considerably in the last few days. Most of the calls concerned marital problems, he said. Other calls had been received from persons contemplating suicide and persons seeking help with alcoholic or financial problems, problems associated with adolescent children, or psychiatric problems. Many of the calls were prompted by a feeling of loneliness, neglect, or insecurity which was particularly pronounced during the Christmas period, said Mr Mackie.
