Top films of 1970
“Ryan’s Daughter,” directed by David Lean, tops the list of 10 best films or 1970, selected by the “New York News.”
A critic, Wanda Hale, said this picture also should win another Academy Award for the photography of Fred Young. Another British film on the list is “Women in Love,” Ken Russell’s adaptation of the D. H. Lawrence novel. The French director, Rene Clement, was honoured for his “Rider on the Rain.”
Other pictures on the list were American: “Airport,” “Patton,” “Husbands, Lovers and Other Strangers,” “Five Easy Pieces,” “Love Story,” and “I Never Sang for My Father.”
Among foreign films giveh honorable mention were “Confession” starring Yves Montand, and the Britishmade “Cromwell” and "Scrooge.”
