RANKING TENNIS
New lists issued C. G. Judge has been ranked top of an interim provincial men's list issued by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis selectors (Messrs J. Dickie, Judge and, Mrs P. Leopold) yesterday. Second is W. Edgecumbe, but B. J. Aldridge has overtaken P. V. Boatwood and R. N. McCutcheon, who were selected in the Wilding Shield team ahead of him, but who have since both lost to him.
R. Webster, who was top of the Slazenger Shield side last season, has been placed sixth after some good wins. Miss R. Legge, the second ranked New Zealand woman, who is at present in Australia as a member of the Federation Cup side, has the top women’s ranking, ahead of Miss J. Habgood and Mrs C. Armitage, playing ranking matches in Christchurch again after a period in Dunedin. The lists are:— Men.—C. G. Judge 1, W. Edgecumbe 2, B. J. Aldridge 3, P. V. Boatwood 4, R. N. McCutcheon 5, R. Webster 6, J. Martin 7, S. Menzies 8, L. Legge 9, D. Haworth 10, I. Stanton 11, N. Pattinson 12. A number of others were not ranked because of insufficient performances.
