Reopening of P.O. wanted

A request for the immediate reopening of the Mount Pleasant Post Office was made yesterday by the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr T. M. McGuigan). He sent a telegram to the' Postmaster-General (Mr McCready) asking for his urgent assistance in reopening the,post office, which was closed because the shopkeeper who ran the office had gone out of business.

Mr McCready replied that he was arranging for a report to be forwarded to him and that he would write to Mr McGuigan later.

Mr McGuigan said it seemed .ridiculous that a fully-equipped post office should be sitting with its door locked. He said the owner of the shop had told him he was willing to let the shop to the department. “I feel the post office should be reopened without I delay,” he said. t
