Survey on hospital

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. He did “not entirely discount” the continued use of the Queen Mary Hospital, in Hanmer Springs, as a hospital, the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) told Parliament today. The Minister was replying to the latest in a series of Opposition questions regarding the future of the hospital. He told Mr I. J. Brooks (Lab., Marlborough) that a review of the situation at the hospital at present being undertaken, “will include, if necessary, a survey of possible alternative uses.” He added: “I can assure the member and the people of Hanmer Springs township that the social and economic implications ' for their township will be given every consideration.”

Mr McKay, who told supplementary questioners that the basic concern was shortage of medical staff at the hospital, said he was not able to give a firm date for the completion of the review.
