Tennis field day

Sixty-four players entered in an A grade women’s field day held by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at Wilding Park. Mesdames L. Buxton and M. Spencer (Fendalton) won with 41 points. Other leaders were Mesdames B. McNicol and N. Power (Shirley) 38, Mesdames E. Walker and L. Lydiate (Avonside) 34, Mesdames M. Pipe and A. Smith (North Beach) 32. Athletics. Cambridge beat Oxford, 6-1, in the inter-univer-sity athletics match. Cambridge had already won the freshmen’s and relay matches, and it was the first time since 1964 the ‘Tight blues” had completed the hat-trick.
