RECOGNITION FOR PAPERS

Contributions to transport

A Paeroa man, Mr N. J. Clarke, was awarded the main prize at the annual conference of the New Zealand division of the Institute of Transport, which opened in Christchurch on Thursday. Mr Clarke, the managingdirector of Provincial Transport, Ltd, Paeroa, won the BP New Zealand, Ltd, prize for a paper on “The Challenge of Change in New Zealand Road Transport.” He presented the paper to the Auckland section of the Institute some months ago. Mr A. B. Coombs, of the New Zealand Railways Road Services, Wellington, was awarded the institute's prize for graduates and students for his paper, “An Exploration of the Concept of Free Urban Transport.” He presented the paper to the institute’s Wellington branch.

The two prizes presented by the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) were both won by Christchurch men. Mr K. D. Mills won the Graduates Prize, and Mr D. J. Olsen the Students Prize. .
