Ray Columbus in variety series
Notwithstanding its title, “My Name is Ray Coiombus,” the new variety show starting tomorrow night, is not just a showcase for the star. It is very much a variety show, introducing, in the main, new acts although well-known faces will certainly pop up among the new ones. Ray Colombus had the first such show on early New Zealand television. That was a series of 15-minute pop programmes produced in Christchurch, with Ray Colombus and the Invaders. Throughout this series Ray is backed by 10 young people called “The Population.” They act as a chorus in very
much the same way as “The Young Generation” do for Rolf Harris. Working with “The Population” is Sandra Johnstone, of Auckland, a choreographer who has worked with the A.B.C. and was also choreographer for “The Golden Disc.”
