A discussion at a London Club among Samuel Butler, Anthony Trollope, George Bernard Shaw and Samuel Clemens, with the subject the colonial days in New Zealand, is the diverting formula for “Survey” on Wednesday. The programme, called “Conversation Piece,” draws on the reminiscences and writings of these four famous literary figures, all of whom were in New Zealand at one time or another, but who had not met. Rosaline Goldring wrote the story, which is based on a radio documentary by Ivan Bootham, who assisted in the adaptation to television.
The principal players are Tony Groser (Trollope), Frank Newman (Bernard Shaw), Ronald Lynn (Butler) and Walter Pym (“Mark Twain”).
