Rodeo will raise funds for scouts
A two-day rodeo, with events including calf-rop-ing, steer-riding, and bulldogging, will be held at the Templeton Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. The rodeo is being held to raise money to complete facilities for scouts, guides and cubs on the three-acre Rimu Park, on the corner of Buchanans Road and the Main West Coast Road. The Rimu District Scout Association, in conjunction with the Rodeo Cowboys’ Association (South Island), has organised the event The rodeo secretary (Mr E. L Gray) said yesterday that both days would be a real attraction for the family. The programme would start at noon on Saturday and 1 p.m on Sunday. The Rimu District Scout Association includes the Yaldhurst, Hornby, and Riccarton areas, and 600 scouts and cubs, aged from eight to 18, are in the district Mr - Gray said the park was leased from the Paparua County Council. The scout association had already spent $lOOO on facilities and was now raising $7OOO to extend the cookhouse and build a clubhouse, campsite, and more toilets.
There would be a competition at the rodeo for children dressed as cowboys and cowgirls. The . competition would be in two groups—six to nine and 10 to 12—with prizes for the best dressed.
