New ambassador Lord Cromer, a former Governor of the Bank of England, has been named as Britain’s new Ambassador to the United States. He succeeds Mr John Freeman, who recently announced his retirement from the post.—London, November 9. Agent killed A North Korean agent was killed and another captured by South Korean coastal security troops in a gun battle yesterday morning, on an island about 20 miles west of Seoul, the South Korean Defence Ministry has announced. —Seoul, November 9. Tokyo denial The Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry today denied that any official negotiations were under way for closer economic relations between Australia and Japan. The Ministry said that the present relations between the two nations were already excellent, and that there were no trade or economic problems requiring urgent attention.—Tokyo, November 9.
