Meals on train The serving of meals began on a trial basis on South Island Main Trunk expresses last week. This is the first time meals have been served on board trains on this run for 50 years. Salads, cold meats and beverages were made available to passengers in a check of procedures to be used when the Southerner express comes into service on December I.—(P.A.) No deliveries No mail will be delivered in the Christchurch postal district on Show Day, says the Chief Postmaster (Mr M. T. Reedy). Stamp, delivery and registration counters at the Chief Post Office will be open from 8 am. to 11.30 a.m. and the Post Office Savings Bank will be open from 9 aan. to 11.30 a.m. Telegrams will be accepted as usual and there will be the usual dispatches of air mail. French film shown A French film, “MarieOctobre,” starring Danielle Darieux, was shown at a recent meeting of the Alliance Francaise in Christchurch. The film, supplied by the French Embassy in Wellington, showed the drama which ensued after a reunion of war-time resistance men found that one of them had betrayed the others during the war.
