New telegraph circuits

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 9. The Post Office is to expand its telegraph circuit network, the Postmaster-General (Mr McCready) announced in a statement today. The $283,000 project includes the provision of additional circuits on existing inland and international routes, and the replacement of some obsolete circuits on inland routes. Some 600 new circuits will be installed. The telegraph network provides the circuits for private services such as telex, leased teleprinter, and data transfer, and for the public telegraph teleprinter system. The network is being augmented to meet present and future demand for the private services, and to provide for the modernisation of the public system.

Completion of the project will take some months, but the Post Office plans to have most of the new circuits in service by early next year.
