Fisheries Bill introduced

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. Oyster fishermen will be able to carry on crayfishing in the closed season for oysters, under legislation introduced in Parliament on Friday. The Fisheries Amendment Bill, introduced by the Minister of Marine and Fisheries (Mr McCready) repeals a sub-section of the act inserted in 1963 to prevent the oystermen crayfishing. The short bill also provides that debris from mining claims will in future be deemed to be pollution. Under the 1908 act, debris from mining claims was specifically excluded. There was no debate on the bill, which was given a first reading.
