Monowai A leads in women’s softball

Monowai A repulsed a > spirited sixth innings batting rally by Spreydon on Saturday to become the outright leader of the Canterbury women's senior softball championship. In a tight match, Spreydon launched a determined rally to score two runs, but Monowai A held on to win, 3-2.

Western Suburbs capitalised on Monowai B's inconsistent fielding and went on to gain its first win of the season. 13-10.

Christchurch West had the bye.

MONOWAI A 3, SPREYDON 2 Monowai A opened the scoring in the first innings when B. Turbott, who was walked, scored after a bunt by N. Beale and a wild throw.

A. Phillips hit safely and added Monowai’s second run in the fourth innings when J. Lee managed a hard drive. B. Turbott gained her second run of the match in the fifth innings,
