Busy week-end for hospital staff

Staff of the Christchurch Hospital accident and emergency department had a busy week-end treating casualties brought in from motor accidents. Thomas James Currie suffered suspected internal injuries and leg injuries when a car struck him as he was walking in Bealey Avenue, near Colombo Street, about 1 a.m. on Saturday. He was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital where his condition last night was reported as comfortable. Cars collide Three persons were injured when two cars collided at an intersection on the Main South Road, near Church Comer, Upper Riccarton, about 2 a.m. the same morning. Christopher Paul Bamford, c/o staff houses, Paparua Prison, suffered a fractured hip and concussion. He was admitted to Christchurch Hospital where his condition last night was fairly satisfactory.

Alan Clyde Baker, of 26 Pinehurst Crescent, and James Craig Quigley, of The Peaks, Hawarden, were both discharged after treatment for minor injuries.

St John Ambulance Association officers had difficulty freeing two of the injured men. The fire brigade’s special cutting equipment was called for but when it ar-

rived soon afterwards the men had been freed. Head injuries When a car struck a pole outside 341 New Brighton Road, about 3.15 a.m. on Saturday, Terence Weir, of 467 Johns Road, suffered head injuries. He was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital but was discharged yesterday. Three persons were injured when two cars collided at the intersection of Ferry Road and Moorhouse Avenue about 4.50 a.m. on Saturday. Mrs Ruahine Manihera, of Porirua, who suffered head injuries, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital where her condition last night was fairly comfortable. Mrs Gloria Jean Tait, also of Porirua, and John David Laurence, of Christchurch, were both discharged after being treated for injuries. Raymond Michael Bonnect, of 28 Marple Street, suffered head injuries after a car rolled outside 98 Condell Avenue about 11.20 p.m. on Saturday. He was admitted to Christchurch Hospital and discharged yesterday. Child hurt Kerry Anne Rollo, aged 3, of 17 Bellfield Street, suffered head, arm and leg injuries when her tricycle was hit by a car in Gayhurst Road about 2.50 p.m. yesterday. She was admitted to Christchurch Hospital where her condition last night was satisfactory. Linda Rolton, of 44 Edward Avenue, who suffered head injuries when a car struck a pole in Waltham Road about 8.40 p.m. on Friday whs only semi-conscious last evening.

She was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital where her condition is fairly satisfactory. Leg injuries A motor-cyclist, Neville Musson, of 145 Aorangi Road, suffered leg injuries when his motor-cycle and a car collided in Clyde Road about 5.10 p.m. yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. The Christchurch Hospital staff also treated a steady stream of persons who had suffered injuries in other accidents in the city during the period but who had not been hurt sufficiently to warrant admission to hospital.
