CRISIS OVER?
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, Oct 11. President Nixon may have quietly surmounted another Cuba crisis with the Soviet Union, the “Guardian” suggests. It says that the Russian submarine tender which the Pentagon claimed last month might fbrm the nucleus of a Soviet Union . naval base in Cuba has set sail from the harbour of Cienfuegos, apparently on its way home. Intelligence sources in Washington have disclosed that she set off along the southern coast of Cuba accompanied by the repair vessel, landing ship and tug that were with her in harbour, headed for the Windward Passage, which leads out into the Atlantic.
They could turn back to Cienfuegos later, but it is difficult to imagine a reason why a group of vessels of these types should put to sea unless on their way back to Russia, the "Guardian” says. There is nothing they can usefully exercise together, other than the basic manoeuvres of naval seamanship.
