NEW ZEALAND ‘ FOREST SERVICE | VACANCY No. 14 I RESEARCH TECHNICIAN TRAINEES THE NEW ZEALAND FOREST SERVICE offers a number of research technician traineeships at Rotorua, some positions being suitable for girls. Minimum qualifications desired is lower sixth form certificate or equivalent. Preferred subjects are chemistry, mathematics, physics and biology, at least two of which’ have been taken to form VI level. These positions are in the field and/or laboratory, assisting scientists engaged on forestry research, pulp and paper, tree breeding and growth, climate, soils, timber physics, mechanics, wood preservation, statistical analysis and mensuration (girls do not have to do as much field works as boys). Following completion of a three-year training course (for boys), two-year (for girls), there is opportunity for progression to technician and, for outstanding officers, to technical officers. All applicants should be prepared to study for the New Zealand Certificate in Science. Those completing this certificate receive promotion to the maximum salary for the basic technician grade.
