FERRY SHIP LOSS

Inquiry Report This Month (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) | BASSETERRE (St Kitts) Sept. 6. An inquiry into the sinking of the ferry ship Christena, with the loss of 200 lives, ended today with three divers testifying that they had located more than 30 bodies. The ferry sank on August 1 while on a regular 11-mile voyage from Basseterre to the neighbouring island of Nevis. The divers, Philip Miller, Arthur Anslyn and Reginald Yearwood, told the one-man Commission of Inquiry that they had dived 11 fathoms to examine the vessel last week. They said they had recovered identification papers and passports and sighted more than 30 bloated and decomposed bodies and a few skulls. The inquiry commissioner, Mr Justice Renwick, will submit a report on the sinking to the acting Governor, Mr Milton Allen, by September 15.
