4th Week Of Fast

Twenty-four days have now passed since a Christchurch woman, Mrs Sue Taylor, first began her fast in protest against New Zealand involvement in Vietnam.

‘This coming week will be the decisive one as to whether I can continue,” she said yesterday. She feels less tired now but has to sleep longer at night Mrs Taylor is a part-time university student and if she finds her protracted fast interfering with study she thinks she will give up.

Her diet now includes a little raw fruit or vegetable, on the advice of her brother-in-law, Dr Stephen Taylor, who recently completed a fast of 40 days. She said that although she had been disappointed at the lack of public interest shown in her cause, she was pleased about two high school boys who had spoken to her during the week, asking questions on the issue.
