FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large anticyclone centred east of the South Island is moving slowly eastwards. A weak front is almost stationary over the Auckland province, while a depression over the north-west Tasman Sea is moving southwards. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast.— North-east winds, fresh on parts of the coast; rather cloudy at first, with scattered drizzle patches; cloud decreasing inland during the day, but persisting in some coastal parts; cooL Marlborough.—Winds from the easterly quarters, fresh locally; cloudy at times; a few patches of light rain at first; cool. Nelson.—Easterlies, fresh in exposed places; mainly fine, with moderate day temperatures; isolated showers about Golden Bay. Buller and Westland.—Mainly fine, with moderate day temperatures but increasing high cloud in the north; moderate variable winds. Outlook: some areas of rain in Buller and Westland; elsewhere cloudy, but little or no rain. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
