BOXING TITLE

Riccarton Boy’s Success Most trainers get, their greatest satisfaction from preparing winners. Riccarton’s C, McDonald is no exception, but last week-end he had just as much pleasure from the news that his budding stable apprentice had achieved a victory in a sport right outside racing.

Fourteen-year-old I. Grant, who at present is serving a probationary period with McDonald as a lead-up to becoming an apprentice jockey, carried off the honours in a national boxing tournament held in Hamilton last weekend.

After eliminating his opponents in the preliminary bouts, young Grant took the title in the sst 51b to sst 101 b grade at the New Zealand championships.
