Ashburton Competitions Continue

The Ashburton Competitions Society’s annual festival continued into its second day yesterday, with a feature being the first sessions in the speech section. A notable performer in yesterday’s vocal and instrumental section was J. S. Dawson, of Christchurch, in the boys’ splo, under 14, He scored 82 points and the judge of the section, Mr K- Newson, said he sang with a mature style for his age and gave an expressive and musical performance.

He also commended the standard of competitors in duet classes for their good balance between the two players. The Radiant Hall was a riot of colour with the large number of performers in costume for the dancing classes gathered for their items. This section includes some of the largest classes in the festival.
