Hospital Care
Sir, —I was taken ill suddenly and was operated on within two hours of admission. When I came to and realised what was going on, I found myself in Ward 7, Christchurch Hospital—in hospital for the first time in my life. What a revelation! I have never seen such a wonderful team of dedicated people. 1 felt humbled watching the young nurses tending to the wants of our senior citizens so cheerfully, and the ever-present and tactful ward sisters. To all these wonderful people I say, simply, “thank you.” During my rehabilitation I learnt two things: The corridor is a quarter of a mile long, and that a Hospital Board loan had been floated. The latter I learnt of by reading the small posters stuck on the walls of the corridor. I thought this over and concluded: What better way to help one of our hospitals than to bring its needs to the attention of the people of Christchurch? In a selfish sort of way I am trying to show my appreciation for what they have all done so willingly for me.—Yours, etc., TED (SPENCERVILLE). August 31, 1970.
