fN.Z. Pre«j Azzocidlfon)

AUCKLAND, August 25. A charge concerning the importation of a new car, brought against Roderick (John McKay, was dismissed in the Auckland Magistrate’s (Court today. ; McKay, a 27-year-old dairy (farmer from Waipu, denied

the charge last week before Mr C. E. H. Pledger, S.M. The charge alleged that McKay bought a Holden Kingswood, valued at $3lOO, when it should not have been disposed of within a year of its registration. Last week the Court was told that McKay first heard from his father, a Minister of the Crown, that there could be something wrong with the deal. Mr McKay spoke to his son after Mr Shelton, Minister of Customs, received a letter about the car. McKay got in touch with Paine Bros (Motors), Ltd, from which he bought the car, and asked for an explanation. He was told that there had been a little trouble, but it (had all been cleared up and jhe had nothing to worry | about. McKay passed the explanation back to his father. ( In a reserved decision today (the Magistrate ruled that as ihe was unable to say that McKay knowingly committed a breach of the permit, McKay could not be convicted.
